Below is the average time spent on Documentaries. I tend to work faster since I am both the director and editor.
1. Footage Review and Organization: Reviewing and organizing 20–50 hours of raw footage can take 1–2 weeks.
2. Rough Cut: Crafting the initial storyline might take 2–4 weeks, depending on the complexity and narrative flow.
3. Fine Cut and Revisions: Polishing the rough cut, adding transitions, refining pacing, and incorporating feedback could take another 2–3 weeks.
4. Color Grading and Sound Design: This stage usually takes 1–2 weeks, depending on the quality and complexity.
5. Final Touches and Rendering: Finalizing, exporting, and quality checks could take a few days.
Total Time: Typically, it could take anywhere from 6 to 12 weeks for a professional editor to complete a 50-minute documentary.
For 2025 I am pretty much fully booked except for Fridays and Saturdays. Occasionally I will work on Sundays.
